Sonu Sood News: Income tax officers conduct search on second day of actor Sonu Sood’s residence in Mumbai

After raiding Bollywood actor Sonu Sood’s residence in Mumbai late last night, income tax officials arrived at the property this morning for the second round of research. There are reports that officials are investigating Sood’s real estate deal with a Lucknow-based real estate company.

A team of IT officials visited the 48-year-old actor’s home in Juhu to conduct search operations to investigate suspected financial irregularities, according to the IANS report.

Bank statements, account books, documents and details of Sood’s financial or business transactions are examined during the investigation for possible cases of tax evasion. However, officials have yet to share details on the matter. According to other reports, officials are calling the search operation an “investigation”.

According to a report by PTI, the IT department is raiding at least six locations, including Mumbai and Lucknow.

Sood drew the attention of the spotlight during the pandemic as he mobilized to help those in need. It has helped many migrants reach their countries of origin during the national lockdown imposed last year following the Covid-19 crisis.

The opposition criticized the raids carried out by the tax service against the actor, calling them a “witch hunt”. Raghav Chadha, spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), said Thursday it was just a witch hunt by an insecure government against a giant philanthropist. “This is nothing but a witch hunt by an insecure government against a giant philanthropist considered a ‘messiah’ by millions.
