Ludhiana: Last day to pay property tax today, get 10% discount : The Tribune India

The Municipal Corporation (MC) has collected around Rs 77 crore as property tax in the current financial year 2022-23 so far. September 30 is the last day to file property tax for the current fiscal year with a 10% discount.

MC Superintendent Vivek Verma said the civic body only collected around Rs 6 crore as property tax in just one day on Thursday. The MC expects to collect more tax on Friday, which is the last day for a 10% discount.

Verma said Suvidha centers in MC will remain open until 6 p.m. for property tax collection on Friday. Furthermore, residents could also pay the same online. So far, property tax of 2.12 lakh had been received by the civic body in this financial year.

The MC collected more property taxes between April 1 and September 28, 2022, compared to the corresponding period last year. The MC aims to generate an income of Rs 100 crore from property tax during the financial year.

Following the target income, the civic body had collected Rs 71.44 crore in tax between 1 April and 28 September 2022. The civic body had collected Rs 42.39 crore as property tax during the corresponding period of the last financial year.

Verma said the MC had collected Rs 29.05 crore more in property tax in the current financial year to September 28 than the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

Cessation of Cancer on Tax

The MC also levies a cancer tax on the current year’s property tax. MC Superintendent Vivek Verma said 2% cancer tax on property tax was charged and the tax collected would be sent to the state government.
