Bangalore: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) who has been in financial shock seeks to fill its coffers, as several avenues and sources of income have declined since Covid-19 hit the city, BBMP seeks to ensure that ‘he does not lose his main sources of income.
One of the biggest sources of income for the BBMP is the collection of property taxes. Due to Covid-19 and other technical reasons, there has been a slight drop in the collection of property tax revenue.
A special meeting was held today under the direction of the BBMP commissioner to verify any anomalies and ensure proper tax collection.
During the meeting, the BBMP chief commissioner asked officials to issue notices to property tax defaults in each BBMP area and immediately start tax collection.
Instructions have been given to tax assistants to pay attention to the collection of property tax.
Speaking after the meeting, the commissioner said that “a notice should be issued to defaulters within ward boundaries and take steps to collect taxes immediately.” In the current fiscal year the goal is to collect 4000 crore of property tax and so far 2141.51 (53%) crore has been collected as of yesterday. In this regard, all officers must work hard to hit the target. “
He also asked tax officials to issue new defaults within ward boundaries according to the list of assets with pending tax payments and to ensure defaults are required to pay.
The special commissioner (revenue) was Shri S. Basavaraju, all zone commissioners, all joint zone commissioners, deputy commissioner of the revenue department, the joint commissioner of the revenue department, revenue officers, agents of Assistant revenue and other officers were present at the meeting.
